The answerers above need to go back to school. Neither San Fransisco nor Europe is a country!

Someone below even said Western Europe. Where did you get your High School diplomas from, a Cracker Jack Box?

That would be Holland. The Netherlands. As in, Amsterdam!
It was also a safe haven for pagans and witches in Europe, and for those accused of witchcraft, for the centuries following the Roman influence on religion and politics from around th 1400's to the very nearly present past, where there were no provisions for laws against alternative practices, and witch burning was prohibited. And Women had rights and position in society along with men. A very sophisticated society and culture, then and now....And historically, it was the Netherlands that first settled the New Country we now know as the United States....But they rewrite and tell history how they wish, and even change it completely ever so often. I grew up being taught it was Chris Columbus....but he actually discovered the Bahamas.
Yep.....The most civilized country in the world would definately be Holland.

The Netherlands is the most openly gay friendly, especially in Amsterdam, but there are people there like everywhere that do not accept any alternative lifestyle. Thailand has also been called thighland for good reason. They are also pretty open and accepting, especially in the touristy areas like Pattaya and Bangkok. Been to both and would probably chose Thailand.

I hear a lot of European countries and commonwealths are. Such as Sweden ( I heard gay marriage is legal there), Great Britain just made civil unions legal a couple of years ago, and I think Australia might be more open. And I'm sure Amsterdam in the Netherlands would be open, they are really open about sex in general (I hear) and maybe Germany.

Denmark has been the leader in the gay rights, followed closely by Sweden and the Netherlands. Denmark was the first country to have civil unions, back in 1988, and the first to have gay marriage, in 1996. Sweden and the Netherlands followed soon afterwards.

Outside of Europe, it's Canada. They were the first non-European country to legalize gay marriage.

here in my country of Australia, generally speaking we are open to just about anythingand there are no laws against homosexuality except of course the law that says homosexuals cannot get married. Ausralians are the most open and laid back of all cultures and societies and thats what makes it the greatest country in the world.
