Most of the As Seen on TV stuff has a phone # to contact customer service with any issues with the product, if not a money-back guarantee. Call them up! If you have the receipt, you're golden, but if you wait for forever before doing anything about it, you might have a problem. Land's End clothes, for example, have a lifetime warrantee-- if your clothes wear out, they'll replace them (my brother-in-law's dad actually returned underwear from 10 years ago and got new ones!). Crayola Color Wonder markers aren't supposed to write on anything but Color Wonder paper-- my friend's child managed to write on her table, she called the Color Wonder people and they gave her a refund AND a solution to clean off her table. So give them a call and let them know their product doesn't work as promised-- they'll never know that what worked in their lab doesn't work at home unless real people tell them. They want your money and will do a lot to keep your business.

You might try the Federal Trade Commission, but they are so overworked that I doubt if it would do much good. I have complained to the customer service of many companies. Some times it helps, but most the time it doesn't. I did get a manager replaced at a local chain store because of my detailed complaint.

I have complained to the company's helpline number in the past and usually get freebies or vouchers. Some times you need to write in too. I have been advised that all customer complaints are addressed but each company has it's own policy on making changes. If it sounds like it will work like magic, then it will probably require ACTUAL magic to do that. (well that's how I avoid disappointment)

I agree with what you say.
If I buy something and its complete rubbish, I either write to the manufacturers or take it back to where I got it (with the receipt) and demand a refund.
If i write to companies i usually get an apologetic letter and money back, plus vouchers.
I have to disagree with the comment about ainsley harriott and the power spray. I use that and find it very good, but totally agree with the cilit bang what a load of crap.

I never buy any products which are advertised unless they are NEW products. My thinking is that, if they are so good no advertising should be needed. Products would sell themselves.
