I thought it was a great movie and I managed to follow it all the way until the end, which i didn't get: Why did Mark Wahlberg's character murder Matt Damon's character?

Fired or not, being a pissed off character or not, I think it was because Mark W's character was a GOOD cop and Damon was the traitor (of course it was also revenge for the death of his boss and mentor).

Because he knew Matt Damon's character was the rat and they had a fight earlier in the film that Wahlberg's character was suspended for.

Because if you'll remember, Matt Damon is the reason he got fired, and he is also responsible for his partners death
