There is disagreement over who was the inventor of the modern flush toilet, and flushing out the truth is not easy. Many give credit to THOMAS CRAPPER (1837-1910), an English sanitary engineer, for inventing the valve~and~siphon arangement that made our modern toilet possible. Then there are others who maintain that our hero was a nameless MINOAN (a native of ancient Crete) who lived some 4,000 years ago. And then there are those who give the credit to ALEXANDER CUMMING who patented a flushing device in 1775.

The toilet was invented by a man named John Crapper.
Sorry, can't remember when.

I guess the basic toilets, the first, were holes in the ground. As for the actual toilet as we know it, it was invented by Thomas Crapper. Seriously.

Are you referring to John Crapper? Really, I think he had something to do the design of the toilet, or the flush mechanism, I don't remember.

One day Jonathan Murray felt like peeing. But the hole in the ground was oh so uncomfortable. He thought that chairs were comfortable. So he sat on it, but figured that he couldn't pee. So he made a hole in it. And thats how toilets were made.
