When does the Japanese baseball season start? How about sumo? Is it difficult to get tickets?

JPB has it's opening day a little bit sooner that MLB. This year I think it's the weekend of 3 24/25. It can be hard to get tickets to Yomiuri Giants games, but there are three other teams in the Kanto area. If you can't get to a Giants game on any given night there are always the Yokohama Bay Stars, the Seibu Lions in Saitama and Chiba's Lotte Marines. The Bay Stars stadium is within walking distance of Chinatown, so it's a good excuse to go to Yokohama.

The Sumo Spring tournament is in Osaka from March 11 to 25. The next tournament after that will be in Tokyo May 13 to 27. There are usually lots of tickets available on the weekdays. Keirin bicycle racing is a very intense, if you are interested. In the Kanto area there are velodromes in Kawasaki and Saitama.

I found this site really helpful: http://ww1.baywell.ne.jp/fpweb/drlatham/seegame/seegame.htm

I'm going to see a Lions game late in March and a Tigers game early in April when I'm there.
