Sometimes the pain impulses don't reach the brain's pain receptors as quickly as the moment of cutting or bruising thus we sometimes feel the pain a bit later.

My theory is that you have a subconscious niggling feeling about the pain in the back of your mind but can't put it to an injury... so you start to look around for the cause of it... when you find it (i.e. cut on finger) you have somewhere to associate with the niggling in the back of your mind and the pain amplifies in that area.

Either that or it doesn't actually hurt until you accidentally put something like vinegar or another liquid near the wound... and that Definately causes a pain or two!

Either that or it is all power of the mind and out of sight out of mind :)

I agree. I was doing some work in the garden and didn't realise until I turned to go back in the house that I'd cut both my legs off at the knee with the hedge trimmers.

It's all about the physical and mental of the mind. Sometimes the mind is so concentrate at something else, it tends to forget about the pain. That is how some people walk over red hot coals, bare feet.

You are so right. I was told by my grandmother that when you get a paper cut if you go 'ow' and look at it it will start to hurt immediately but if you carry on with what you're doing and ignore it it won't hurt and will heal quicker....and it's true!
