NetAlert, Australia's Internet Safety Advisory Body, http://www.netalert.com.au/ has EXPERT advice on situations like this. They can probably direct you to a similar organisation in Scotland. They will tell you that you should NEVER trust anyone on the net - it would be like trying to meet people by going into a nightclub blindfolded. They will also tell you that there are a helluva lot of cases of young people who have been raped, abducted and worse because of meeting people in person they "met" on the internet. If you're old enough, get a group of friends together and go with your friend and make damn sure it all takes place in a public space.

You are right to be concerned, it is always a risk to meet a stranger. Why don't you tell her you are worried and perhaps ask to tag along initially when he meets her to be sure. If she wont let you go with her then make sure she is meeting him in a public place and that she has told you, or her family, where she will be, and phone her on the day. I hope it all works out for her and that he is who he says. You are clearly a good mate, good for you.

Just be careful. He could be anyone.
But if your friend wants to then there isn't much you can do apart from support her and ring her to make sure she is ok on the day.
