You don't need it, but people need an inexpensive easy to buy gift to give at baby showers, so you get these pre-packaged sets of cheaply made Onsies and booties that will clutter up your babies chest of drawers. Save them. If you have a little girl then she can use them for doll clothes later.

You really don't. I think it's part of the nesting instinct. That you want everything to be ready when baby come home. You'll at least needs some basics like diapers, sleepers, wipes, and if your bottle feeding all that stuff. And, burp clothes! :)))
