Why is is that for centuries headstones have stood straight with no aid and SUDDENLY the councils are going around grave yards condemning then as a HEALTH AND SAFETY risk? MY nans headstone was only reset 10 years ago and it too has been laid down as dangerous. What the hells going on? I would forstly say that why should I pay for it to be reset AGAIN when it obviously was not done properly 10 years ago!. Secondly is this just another ploy to extract more money out of us as usual?

Council workers are all jobsworths or getting backhanders.
Chances are that the council are in cahoots with the local stonemasons and making a tidy packet in commission from the work they are generating.

apparently its actually a new health and safety thing that they have brought in and all headstones have to be re-set with iron rods....its because there have been a few deaths over the years due to falling headstones when kids are playing in graveyards. Its not fair though, and like you said it should have been done properly when it was first erected. It costs enough!!
