Yes, X-ray cameras are coming to Britain's streets, for the purpose of 'fighting terrorism'. (Aren't we getting ID cards to do that?)

So are you OK about this? Just by walking down the street they will see you in all your naked glory plus everything you are carrying. An invasion of civil liberties or totally justified in the 'war on terror'?

The reason I bring this up is because frankly I'm tired of reading comments everywhere from people saying 'if you got nothing to hide, whats the problem?'

Fine, so you won't mind me having a good rummage through your shopping bags or pockets, or watching you undress and spying on you next time you get in the bath.

What's the problem? You got nothing to hide, right?

NICK K - Yes that is a very good point too, I forgot to mention that.

I think the use of the word "X-rays" isn't accurate, it's just used to emphasise that the camera can see through clothing. This kind of 'see through clothes' camera has been around for a while and works using infra-red light, not x-rays, so if this is the technology they want to deploy there's no radiation danger.

Although these machines can see through a layer or two of clothing, they are blocked by little more than a thick coat. It's a daft idea. Wasn't this from a leaked memo?

Having said that, if they refined it so it worked through normal clothing, I would have to object. What's this nonsense about not being worried if you have nothing to hide? *Everyone* has something to hide, even if it's as simple as their naked body. I must be allowed to hide whatsoever I like if it will do no-one any harm. It's a trust issue, and needs more debate.

No, I'd be really peed off. The police used one of these machines on a raid in Harlesden, London some years ago. They had the machine in the back of a lorry and made people walk through it - they were looking for guns and knives. I personally don't like the idea of being looked at in this way, my privacy would be invaded and I would feel violated.

If there is indeed a radiation threat from these X-rays, perhaps THAT is the secret weapon the Government is using against terrorism. Kill all the terrorists - & 1 or 2 innocent civilians by radiation poisoning.

What wrong with everybody being okay with this? i do not think that this will help anything, i mean exactly how many times last year was there a terrorist attack? wow i'm very sorry that you all have to go thru that crap!

No, I wear a hat because I don't like video cameras. I have aluminum foil around my passport because I don't like the idea of a chip in it.
FIGHT THE MACHINE!

I dont agree but for different reasons, you speak about infrigement of rights but what about the radiation? you dont get to wear a fancy lead jacket when you visit the dentist just for fun!! over exposure to X-Ray radiation is as harmful as any other kind of raditiaton we will all end up infertile and very sick!!

Yes, I'm happy about it - I'm going to work one of the cameras so I can look at women naked.

So what if they want to look at me under my clothes? It's only a willy.

Maybe it will encourage all the fatties to tone up a bit - can't hide under a baggy T-shirt any more!

Seriously, are you going to even notice it happening, unless you're the one with the knife/gun/semtex down his pants?

X-rays will look at the bones and metal objects, not your naked skin. Yes it’s wrong though.
