I read a Book called The Brotherhood of Eternal Love
Which seemed to Pick up where The AcidTest Left Off
Book Description
First released in 1984, this book became an instant bestseller, and later on, a cult classic. Now updated and containing new material, it tells a brilliantly researched story of a group of idealists fascinated by the potential of LSD to improve the quality of life. Called a hippie mafia by police, The Brotherhood of Eternal Love came to symbolize the rise of LSD, the growth of the psychedelic movement, and the heady, optimistic, revolutionary days of the 1960s.
About the Author
Stewart Tendler is the crime reporter for the Sunday Times. David May was previously a journalist and is now working for the BBC in corporate communications.

Only Tom Wolfe writes books like Tom Wolfe. The man is a phd in American Studies possibly the most american voice in literature. I've read thousands of classics and contemporaries but only he has that journalistic style.
Try some of his other books.
Bonfire of the Vanities (bond trading in the 80's)
Charlotte Simmons (His Newest, a college girl's experience)
The Right Stuff (Chuck Yeager and the first Astronauts)
A Man in Full(Real Estate Developer, Nuevo Riche' in the South)
Hooking Up(A collection of short stories, and an essay of the state of literature in the U.S.)

Well this isn't more recent but Ed Sanders' book on the Manson family and the Tate - LaBianca murders, The Family, is a great read. One might thing one of the Fugs, a 60's band from NYC would have some sympathy for Manson, I suppose, but Sanders shows them in all their evilness. Helter Skelter, the book by prosecutor, Vincent Bugliosa covers the same material but Sanders is much more gritty.
