Before one can ask for more freedom, they have to be able to identify the boundaries that that they already have. Every teenager is different. Parents should start letting their teenagers have a little bit more slack on the leash. However when the teenager starts to faultier in other areas, then they have to pulled back into balance.

The teenage years are supposed to be were you start to learn how to balance your responsabilities with school, home, and your personal time.

I'm not sure what you mean by freedom? I think the amount of freedom a teen ager has should be based on the maturity level of the child, Does the teen have good jugdement, are they responsible, do they yet understand there limitations, are they a good judge in right and wrong?
Their are some very good teenaged young people out there who can deal with the responsibility and some can't, as you can see on the news everyday. Teenagers should be dealt with in a manner equal to there maturity level.

Having successfully raised 4 children, I can say that freedom has to be balanced against restrictions. More freedom only means more chance to get intro trouble. However, too much restriction can lead to evasiveness and sneakiness, so it's question always of balance. Children need to know what the boundaries are and although they will carry on about not enough freedom, they're really happy to have realistic restrictions. Above all, there needs to be consistency and agreement between parents so children know where they stand. One parent who undermines the other whether it be on the side of restriction or freedom, is a recipe for disaster.

Giving teenagers MORE freedom. Are you addressing this to your parents? to parents in general? Freedom to say something, YES of course, by all means. Freedom to do something, on the other hand should be qualified. Doing something requires reference to some given governing rules and regulations in pursuing that "something". If the "something" is personal, like what, where or which church to join with, the teenager should be given full freedom along with some degree of guidance counselling. If that something is of public concern, the teenager should need some guidance and even consent from the parents.

You see, kids, it is not about curtailing freedom, it is about providing parental guidance for your benefits. Afterall, whatever you have become now, is because of your parents. If your parents appear to be irresponsible then the proper authorities should take charge of your welfare. Your welfare is of everybody's concern as it is yours because you belong to a community of some kind wherever you are.

KIDS, REMEMBER, MORE FREEDOM MEANS MORE RESPONSIBILITIES. IF YOU CAN HANDLE RESPONSIBILITIES, FREEDOM FLOWS LIKE FLUID.

More freedom? By law, from parents..what? Some teenages have too much freedom some have none.

I believe teenagers should have more freedom than someone younger. A teenager with no freedom doesn't know how to use it when becoming an adult...and normally abuses it. Every teenager is different.

Take a Catholic all girl school that doesn't allow multi-sex birthday parties after school. When those girls get older the go crazy and become..words I wouldn't want to use.

No teenagers, have too much freedom now, if you watch the news there are alot of gangs in the school which the people are teens, teens that are using drugs because they want to hang around with people their parents don't know about. They steal cars to go out joy riding in. Its all due to the fact that they don't listen to their parents and do whatever they want.So more freedom to do exactly what? They don't need it.

Against. They have too many "freedoms." Take a look on the streets and in the jails, that is what happens to allowing more freedom.

u need to be specific as in what kind of freedom r u talking about.
me being a teacher can give an example to all tenns parent. Many things your child says to you is an unexpressed feeling. To allow them to express the feeling, give the feeling a name. An example of this is given below:

Teen daughter: This economic theories sucks.
parent: mmhmn?
Teen daughter: It's damn boring and headache u know.
parent: oh i think u r not in a mood for it.
Teen daughter: No. I can't do these calculations of economic inflation. They are horrible. i dont know who discovered all of these.
parent: Sounds like you're having hard time understanding it?
Teen daughter: Yes.

This clearly says that the girl is trying to use her language to express how frustrating it is to her. and the parent listens to what the daughter has to say about it. parent is trying to understand the depth of her anxiety. parent didnt jump into conclusion saying daughter is weak int eh subject or didnt order the teen daughter to go and concentrate more to understand it nor did the parent added to her sayign "yea u r correct" so this way. By naming feelings, she encouraged her to talk through her worries.
