A marketing strategy could be thought of as the proposed procedure which leads an organization to exploit their resources as wise as possible in order to increase their sales and achieve a sustainable competitive advantage in the market.
In defining your marketing strategy it is crucial to conduct an initial market research in order to understand further the condition of the existing market. This is important since the market is actually more important than the marketing itself. A marketing strategy is also an integral function which refers to the combination of how the company would engage their potential customers and the existing competition within the market.
There are several important aspects in defining your marketing strategy:
1.Define your potential target market based on your market research. When you find a gap in the market, you should be able to find a market in the gap before you further process the marketing strategy.
2.Determine all your potential competitors both direct and indirect. Further analysis on their strengths and weaknesses should be conducted.
3.Determine your positioning in the market. By doing this you would be able to create an irrelevant competition within the market.
On the whole, a good marketing strategy should represent a combination of the organization's marketing goals, policies, and action sequences (tactics) into a cohesive whole.

An effective marketing strategy depends upon a product and target cosumer base. Therefore, for more specific answers to your question, these two must be identified first.
