I'm sorry your friend is going through this, but he needs to remember that its not because of anything he has done. His partner apparently has some character flaws and this would have happened eventually.

My 23yr old daughter got married in June to the man she had been engaged to for a year, after another year of a committed relationship. In August they bought a house together. Exactly 5 weeks after they moved in, he met a girl online who he decided was the true love of his life and left my daughter within weeks. It happens to everyone, so tell your friend to count his blessings and move on. My daughter went into counseling to cope with her feelings of failure, and she surrounded herself with friends and family. And when he finally contacted her two months after he moved out and wanted to be "friends and btw could he come get his stuff", she was able to not respond to him and simply went on with her life.

Its not easy, but be there for your friend and encourage all his friends to do the same. Time will heal his wounds.

I agree with Unclefrunk. This has potential disaster written all over it and not only could your freind end up getting hurt but he could end up without a job and potentially unemployable. Please advise him to be very very cautious. Blessings.
