Yes,as far as the relationship between you and your coworker, in my opinion it seems absolutely fine to give emotional comfort to each other and treat each other as family. If it is indeed a healthy friendship, then I am happy for you that you have found such a friend.....When it comes to your birth mum, this is a card life has dealt you. Please do not miss your chance to live and learn from it. Perhaps there are issues between you and your birth mum that you and she will be able to work out one day. Even difficulties are gifts sometimes, and sometimes things change as people grow older...You sound like a thoughtful young person, and I wish you all the best.

There is a saying I read a few years ago that sounds a bit trite but that I've found is true: "Friends are the family you choose for yourself."

However, be careful if you aren't sure that your friend thinks of you as a daughter - 35 is young to have a 19-year old. Perhaps you could think of her as an older sis? :^ )

Yes, I think it can be done, if you live a long way away from home. If you live close to your mother, go up to her & tell her what is on your mind, your mother should always be #1 in your life & should come before anyone! I wish my mother was still alive, I wouldn't be typing this right now, i'd be by her side!

It's perfectly alright. The two of you are missing people in your lives and that need is being mutually met in your friendship. I've had younger people become attached to me as a surrogate mother because it's my nature. Young people need the love and security of a mothers love even if it comes from another woman. Appreciate it and return it in kind.

of course she can! you can love your friend as your 2nd mom and even treat her as your mom.. your friend might even be better to take your mom's place than your mom.. but hey, no one will ever take you're real mom's place. this friend of yours... she can also be like a mother to you. =)
