And don't say the "cake" is cake. The song is obviously not that literal, duh. So what does it refer to?

dude thats an old BJ thomas song and he's saying that everything he has woked for the life he's built (the cake) has been destroyed by destructive forces (the rain) and that he cant rebuild because he has no idea how he made it and youth has faded and the convergance of circumstances that shaped it wont happen again a----gain

I say it's raining. But if it's raining A LOT I say it's pouring! But never "it's pouring rain".

I would assume she means love and that the cake is a metaphor.
