Unless and until terrorists get nuclear weapons, in real terms the damage they can do is minimal. However, to stop them, new laws of incitement have been introduced, police powers have been extended and civil liberties have been restricted. This has opened the door to government misuse and individual irresponsibility. Have we overreacted?

I agree, the cure is worse than the problem. It's called knee-jerk reaction. Seen to be doing something even if it's counterproductive.
Sure, hunt and prosecute terrorists, but the wholesale introduction of draconian police and anti civil liberties messes have not caught one terrorist. they've all been caught the old way.

Everybody keeps mourning 9/11 or 7/7 or whatever easily remembered dates are in history regarding so called, "terrorism". If you use just little common sense you can see the obvious. The TRANSACTION is happenning again and again. It is a continous business. Create terrorist by selling them weapons. Hunt terrorist by laying more taxes and then create terrorists by selling them weapons and hunt terrorist....
It's a repeat cycle. There are no terrorists or police or army...They are part of a very big business. Some are doing it on small scale and some are on big scale but everyone is enjoying it.

More harm is always from terror. The only problem is we are reacting in a manner which is helping the terrorist cause. They commit terror because they don't like our way of life or democracy what do we do in reaction we change our way of life and democracy.

Great question, and you make a good point. But we are a society of defensives. What happens to any of us happens to all (or most). Living here in NY at 911 underscored that. 5+ years later we are still avenging the death of 3000. But we can't let that happen again, and therefore we take action.

The difference between terrorism, freedom fighting and legitimate government's defence policy is simply who won the last fight.

They're all idiots and hopefully they'll cull eachother a bit because the world is overpopulated - mostly with idiots.

The body count of the troops alone in Iraq is larger than that of 9/11. Clearly, the "war on terror" is a total ******* distaster.

They tried that in northern ireland, but that didn't work. That 7/7 was the government to blame muslims, again won't work.
