The scanning report of my 32 week old fetus shows that the respiratory organs, cardiac, lungs, etc are normal. But doctor says it could be delivered at any moment by c-section due to certain complications in the uterus. There is a chance for it to reduce its weight.

At present the baby is 1000 gms, that is 1 Kg ( 2.2 Lbs). Will they place the baby in the incubator or ventilator ? ( I just want to know).

Please provide answers only if u know something about it. Tks a lot in advance.

Most likely both. A ventilator is a machine that makes the baby breathe. There are a bunch of different kinds of these. Some actually have a tube that goes into the baby's throat. Some just fit in the baby's mouth and force air into the baby's lungs. At 32 weeks, a ventilator of some sort is pretty much a definite. How long just depends on the baby. Girl babies tend to do better than boy babies. Black babies tend to be stronger than white babies. And then some kids are just really tough.

An incubator is an enclosed crib that provides warmth and oxygen to the baby. They're usually called an isolette now. It keeps germs to a minimum and basically just keeps the baby safer and warmer than an open crib. Preemies usually wind up in these for a while, before graduating to a radiant warmer, which is just a big thing that keeps the baby warm, almost like a heating light. Eventually babies in the nice get to a regular baby crib. It sounds like your baby will be in the nicu for a little while. That's the best place an early baby can be.

Make sure your doctor has given you the steroid shots. They hurt for sure, but they help the baby's lungs mature. and find out if the hospital you will deliver at has a nicu. If it doesn't, tell your doctor you'd like to deliver at a hospital that has a nicu, so you can be in the same place as your baby. It's hard to have a c-section and ae in the hospital for 3 days and not get to go see your baby.

my son was born at 28.5 weeks weighing 2lb 11 oz - he had breathing difficulties and went straight onto a ventilator whilst on a heating unit rather than incubator. As his breathing improved he had C-pac - and then was put in an incubator with O2 cannulas up his nose. Once he could maintain his body heat himself, he was moved to a cot - gradually the cannulas were removed.
All babies are different and will depend on lots of things - either way, be reassured, your baby will be in the best possible care and they will do everything they can to help your little one.

Good luck

The baby will need many machines to stay alive, including a machine to help him breathe, the ventilator. He or she will have a special closed crib with special heat and a nurse assigned just to him or her. Your baby will have a needle placed in a vein for fluids. Take good care of yourself and get as much rest after the surgery as you can. It is very serious surgery and you will need to take it slowly afterwards. Good luck, hon.

Sorry about that.

See if you can't find a hospital with an oscillator --

-- if a ventilator does turn out to be necessary.
