Donate a lot of money.

These schools take the best. Why would they take a lesser student?

IF you are not a top student academically and have no other particular qualifications, then you arent getting in to an elite school/

If you take all the eight Ivy League schools, plus Stanford, Duke, Chicago, MIT, and Caltech -- that is only about 20,000 freshman total between all of them put together. There are 2,000,000 kids applying for college in the USA this minute. So, how do you think you can get a seat?

And, if you did get a seat, how would you compete? These are 20,000 of the smartest kids in America. If you aren't a top student you would get blown away.

Look for a school that matches your qualifications... if you have a 3.4 and 1950 SATs then look for a school where that is about the average for the kids entering that school.

That way, you will get accepted, and you will fit in.

Ivy League is perhaps the most over-rated elitism in the country.

When you take "Ivy League" in popular context of today's meaning, it usually signifies "selective admissions" "prestige" and above all "honor" But what about the other universities? Is it any better or below these schools? No. Going to a school known for its over-rated academic pride isn't going to make you smart and that is the same as going to community college--a student who goes to commmunity college isn't really any smarter or "dumber" than their counterparts (Take the entire Bush family)

What you really have to ask yourself is how you value education. Not because of some fantastical notion that going to these schools are supposed to make you any more accomplished, any more smarter or any more important than other people.

Plus, they discriminate you if you don't fit a unique background and it wouldn't help if you had a ghostwriter for your college admission letter.
