are you saying the switch on the computer or the monitor that is giving you problems?
it is normal for a monitor to show no signal if the monitor is powered on before the computer.
if however the computer powerswitch is faulty then you may need to either try to locae a spare or buy a new case and transfer the contents from the existing computer to the new one.
alternatively you can set the computer to disregard the power switch on modern systems and have it switch on by pressing any computer key, mouse key or mouse movement.

however if the switch on the monitor is giving you problems then it would be best to locate an approved service agent and get it repaired.

as for has he been to rough, well not necesserily computer components do wear out over time. if the computer case is over f years old then the switch or spring in the button may be failing which could be repaired at a cost.

good luck.

Things break and ware out. It just happen ( I have 3, 2-7yr olds & a 14 yr old). Used 17" monitors are less than $30. Or run to Walmart and pick him up a new 15" flat panel for around $170
