Wondering if anyone out there has taken progesterone cream to help with irregular periods and heavy bleeding? I am not menopausal and not trying to conceive...just trying to get regular. I am anemic and it is starting to affect my quality of life. The Drs want to put me on birth control pills but I feel like this is a band aid approach to the problem. Has anyone had any success with unicorn root for irregular periods? Thanks!!

Actually, I think you I should re-read the question. I did not ask...Why are birth control pills right for me? I prefer not to. If you cant answer the question, dont bother.

Depending on the underlying cause I have hear Vitex/Chaste Berry helps with this. I take it for irregular periods and it has raised my basal body temperature. It also helps with PMS, etc.

There are two kinds of Unicorn Root (false and true). Both have some properties to help for female problems but both can be toxic in large doses. You could also try either one for a month and see if it helps. Herbals should take about 30 days to see results.

I personally take Vitex.

Oh, to the other poster: Birth Control pills are SYNTHETIC hormones and are NOT natural at all. They screw your normal bodily functions up and make your body believe it is pregnant and therefore does not ovulate. I have had many problems since coming off of BC pills as have a lot of other people.

unicorn root hasnt been shown to be effective for this.
im surprised that you feel that birth control pills is a band aid approach to the problem, in fact it is probably the best way to do it (unless you find it inconvenient to take a tablet everyday...but its better than a cream everyday!). birth control pills are just hormone supplements that you normally have in your body and by giving specific supplement amounts throughout the period your body can regulate your period better. in fact, the pills actually fool your brain into thinking you're pregnant, then when you stop taking the pills (last 7 days of cycle) your body realizes it isnt so thats when it has its period.
some patients actually have normalized periods even after stopping birth control pills if they've been on them for a while. regardless of what therapy you choose, you will have to take it all the time to keep things regular, so in essence, everything could be a "bandaid" to the problem.
