I live in a flatshare with two other women. There has been ongoing conflict with one of the girls and together with the other person we have now decided that we want the troublemaker to leave. We have joint liability, apparently there is no law to protect us. The girl first agreed to move out if we paid her the outstanding bills. Now that we have done that, she changed her mind saying she is leaving when it pleases her and without giving us notice... she has decided to make our life complicated. I would like to know if others had a similar experience and what they did to resolve such a tricky situation. Is there a good strategy you could recommand? Cheers

The agency told us that the landlord would not get involved, as the tenant would have legally the right to sue the landlord for evicting her. So no landlord would risk that...

Check your contracts, she may not legally be able to just up and leave as and when she pleases, contracts are there to protect the people renting the flat, and so you also cannot just chuck her out on the street. It must be hard to live with people that are causing you problems, but sadly the laws are in place and there is little you can do to change them. Why not speak to the land lord of the property and see if he can evict her?

Why don't you and the other girl start looking for another place to live. That way you will be rid of her forever and she will have to find to other people to share house with her. My daughter and her friend did just that, it was hard finding another place but they are now much happier. The girl they left behind did no housely duties, refused to clean up even though they had a roster. I suggest you do the same. This girl seems like a real pain and seems to be going out of her way to make you miserable. Maybe you could talk things over in a civilised manner and come to a compromise. If you are lucky and make sure you draw up a roster of who has to do what on certain days and if that person does not vacuum or something they have to pay a five pound fine which will then go into a kitty towards the groceries etc.Good luck and take care:)))

In these situations you either have to be sneaky and underhand or just cut your losses and leave.

If you damage property of hers, or invade her personal space then you could be deemed to be unreasonable if it ever went to court-and might find yourselves liable for any damage inflicted.

However as far as I'm aware there's no law about prancing about in your underwear when it's least appropriate or keeping incredibly garlicky things in the fridge or being ever so slightly too nice to her boyfriend(and I mean so she'd notice but he wouldn't have a clue, not leap on him), or making sure you used the last drop of milk when you know she wants cereal for breakfast, accidents, like a green/blue sock in a white wash, are very hard to prove too(who wants green shreddies??).

She has essentially gone back on her word and if it were me I'd presume that the 'I'll leave when I want' is a 'so make me' challenge.

If she signed a contract to live their she signed up to 1 month notice of leave. If she leaves without giving that notice the land lord can take her to court for the charges.

Move out without giving her any warning, if she wants to be a stuck up b!tch an make your lives a misery beat her at her own game!! or play tricks on her that will make her leave ie. bleach all her clothes, change the locks and proceed to tell her that you told her this was goin to happen etc etc.

Have you both considered moving out yourselves instead of waiting for her to go? You could just get somewhere else?
