Any official statistics about Athens vs. Hamburg (or Stuttgart)? By the way, thank you all.

Having visited both extensively, if you know the ropes, ins and outs and the language Athens might have the edge, but not by much.
This must be qualified however. If you work you must consider the work hours needed to acquire necessities. If you are speaking of an equal amount of money say 2500 Euro, I still think that Athens has the edge.

Athens is really expensive (for greek wages)!!!!! Dont know about Hamburg, but i guess the best is to get paid a german wage and live in Greece.

Edit: If mommy and daddy cover all expenses greece is teriffic. Try making it on your own and *****. Athens is nothing compared to Hamburg the second largest harbor of Europe, from there you will be able to travel all around Europe. Carreer wise i think Athens is a step down. A 2000E salary is nothing if you have to pay rent in Greece. finally a personal view about us greeks is that we are not so openhearted as we believe we are. As Cacofonix would put it "peasants"

You are comparing 2 things which have nothing common. The salaries in Europe are high, in Greece so low, so the cost of living different. Athens is really expensive, and the salaries not so low. But it depends on the job you are doing, if you have house on your own, and the life you are doing..
Greece is not so rich as country..But we are living better..Because the greeks always find the way(even not so legal many times)to earn money and to hide and cheat sopmetimes the state(I am greek, I know)but you can eat cheaper, you can live better even with less.Dont forget how many foreigners leave their countries and come to buy houses in islands to live here for ever..
so, I repeat you, it depends on what you are doing..But if you know how to manage the economy of your house...be sure that everywhere is the same. They call us..The poor contry with the rich citizens..in Greece be sure...you manage everything..But you must become a little bit like us....

I have lived in both Athens and a big german city and I find Athens much more expensive. Cost of living is also highly associated with salary. In Greece unfortunately they do not pay as well as they do in other European countries.

for statistics in certain areas try this website: http://www.urbanaudit.org/CityProfiles.aspx?CityCode=GR001C&CountryCode=GR. other than that i would guess that athens is more expensive in relation to wages offered in Greece.
