would this be a problem with the heating materials that i am considering using? heating lamp, ceramic heater (for night use). if not what would my best options be? considering that i'm gonna stick with the acrylic tank. also would this be enough to heat up the substrate that i plan to use? which would be sand. since the geckos i will be planning to get are from a desert region. need help don't want to make a complete disaster of things thanks.

so heating rocks are dangerous. especially for geckos. i assume you are going to get a leopard gecko?? they are nocturnal so you dont have to worry about getting a uvb/uva bulb. i mean you can have one that emits 2.0 but only keep that one during the day. get a infarred heating bulb and a basking bulb. the basking for the day and the red for the night. it should always be cooler at night. you will need to get a flukers hood that holds the lights. please tell me the exact name of the gecko so i can be of further assisstance

I like those fake rocks that are heaters. They look ok and the lizards can get on them if they are cold and move away if they are too warm.
Just don't get the lamp or your heater too close to the edge. If you have an inch or 2 of sand, that should protect the bottom of the tank from the heat. Remember, heat rises so the top of the tank will be hotter than the bottom.

Best bet are fake rocks, they are great heat sources and through my experience, are probably the favourite of most reptiles, and a red light heat source is the best for the night time, provides light and comfort. Best bet is to research more about what your particular type of gecko prefers (temperature wise).
