im thinking of going for a used 911 Carrera 2 'S'
I can afford the car but not sure about the servicing etc. it comes with a 12 month or 12000 miles parts and labour warranty. So servicing will become a factor after the first 12 months!

Depends on the mileage you intend on doing. Will it be a weekend car etc etc.

Not a car to buy on a budget. By and large a good one won't go wrong, but you need to keep on top of maintanence, and servicing will in excess of £400, simply because Porsche's labour rates are in the region of £80 per hour + VAT. And there's no point in skimping and getting a local garage do it becuase you'll harm the value tenfold what you'll save.
Be aware that nothing, but nothing is cheap on these cars. Why not look at something a little more down to earth and still be able to sleep at night. Soemthing like a 350Z, which will work each and every morning, and cost no more to run than an executive saloon?

first off, independent shops are often better than the dealer when it comes to high end cars. theyre all certified, and they couldnt stay in business if they didnt do excellent work (fr high end cars, at least).
second off, its totally up to luck. the 993s were very reliable, but you could have some issues eventually. it depends on the problem. most of that cars issues were electrical, which is are much cheaper to fix than mechanical problems usually.
overall, have a blast with the car. theyre so awesome. The last of the "scary" 911s. Good choice for cars if you dont wanna do too much servicing on it though.
and make sure to always use mobile 1. it adds some serious life to the engine. oil isnt something to skimp on on those cars.
unfortunately, i cant give you a dollar amount ebcause i dont know where you are. expect to maybe spend 1-1.5k US a year to keep it in perfect shape.

Insurance will be group 20, my premium on a DB7 was just under £1000, fuel was not much more than any other car, nor was depreciation. Servicing was £900 every 4500 miles.
If anything goes wrong tho it is very expensive, for example I had a hole in the headlight caused by a stone on the motorway and that cost £850 just in parts

Count on getting 20mpg on average if you're careful, mid teens if you go for a "spirited" drive.
Your service might cost you £400 plus parts, so budget for £750. ONLY get it serviced at a Porsche dealer. It will retain its value much better if yo do. I'd normally tell someone to get their car serviced at an independant, but this is no normal car!
You may need a set of tyres and they might cost you up to £1000 depending on whether you go to Kwik Fit or a Porsche dealer.
What about insurance. I'd bet it'll be expensive.
I'm not trying to put you off, but it won't be cheap. I envy you in your choice. What year car is it?

Go for it..I've got a 996 carrera ..it's great.Insurance is gp 20 but not bad if you're over a certain age.It likes super unleaded and is not cheap(neither is the servicing) but you don't buy a 911 for fuel economy...enjoy.Let the greenies buy the 'smart' cars and the fiat pandas...life is for living. You're a long time dead.

depends on what goes wrong with engine or what services are needed for it plus the price for oil changes are a different price at different shops plus the price of gas is always changing so there is no way of telling how much it will cost to run it over a year
