I am going to the inquest into a friends tragic death, and im getting very nervous about what will happen.
I need to be as strong as possible for his sister, so could do with some pre warning of what may happen.
Thanks for any advice.

I went to an inquest for a suicide, basically all the facts of the matter are read out, witnesses statements read out etc.

It can be traumatic in that the police will read out information concerning the accident, I heard some pretty graphic details into how the person died, the attending officers will state what happened, the scene of accident as they came upon it, etc.

The coroners report is also read out and the coroner may speak of his findings.

It isnt very nice to have to go to, but its a necessary part of of finding the truth.

A judge of sorts sits in on the proceedings, he will make the decision as to cause of death, fault etc.

Take plenty of tissues, there will be tears, its a very emotional thing to go through, all you can do is be brave for the family and be there for them.

Im sorry you lost your friend, but these inquests are the best way to get to the facts, it can help family and friends to start moving forward in the grieving process.

First of all i am sorry you have to go thru this and sorry about your friend. i witnessed a death once and had to go to an inquest it wasn't as bad as i thought it was going to be, if you witnessed the death you might be called to the witness stand and asked some questions but that is about all that happens really, they would go easy on everyone because it will be a bit upsetting. hope this has helped to ease you a little Good luck
