windows 98,upgrade to millenium edition.
Pc is very very slow to open window at sign on & any other that continues.Dont want any remaining information on as its going to a new home.

If you want to ensure that all your data is destroyed and cannot be recovered, without destroying the actual drive, I would recommend DBAN. It can be downloaded off the internet for free, and is used by organisations like the police, local government and even the CIA in the US. It works by writing strings of Zero data to every sector on the drive. I regularly have to datawipe drives for customers who don't want confidential information to get into the mainstream, and this is by far the best program. Create a bootable floppy, boot the PC from this disk and format the drive then

Simply deleting your file or even formatting your hard drive will not completely erase your data from it. Even repartitioning will not do it. You need to overwrite the data with garbage and there are programs to do it. For a free program, try http://www.scar5.com for simple file shredder.

You could reinstall the operating system, given that you select the option to FORMAT and not QUICK FORMAT during the installation.
