1967: The first colour BBC Test Card incorporated a photograph of 8 year old Carole Hersee (daughter of BBC engineer George Hersee) playing noughts and crosses with a doll. She received a fee of £100.
She is now a theatrical costume-maker and lives in Suffolk with her family (two daughters and a husband). The BBC quotes her as having said "I became fed up hearing about it. It should have gone years ago."
According to Keith Harmer, a collector of test cards, Carole Hersee is in the Guinness Book Of Records as the person who's appeared on television for more hours than anyone else - an estimated 70,000 hours!
The clown doll was called Bubbles. They tried to make him go to rehab; he said ''no, no, no''.

Carol attended Farnham Comprehensive School and achieved fame when she was eight years old as the girl on the television Test Card. She was suggested by her father, a BBC engineer, when professional models proved unacceptable. It was decided to have a child because she would appear more natural and her clothes were less likely to date. On leaving school, she became a seamstress at Bermans, the theatrical costumiers, and among the costumes she helped make were those for Danny La Rue's 'Aladdin' pantomime at the London Palladium, the play 'A Little Night Music' and the films "Julia" and "The Lady Vanishes". Since May 1979 she has been in the wardrobe department at Shepperton Studios working on costumes for the "Flash Gordon" film. She won a 'Special' award in 1971 by Pye TV as the most seen girl on TV.

As far as I remember the girl was the daughter of a famous guy at the BBC and got paid a one off fee for the photo. She has appeared on TV more than any other person because this image was shown so much. I think she lives a life of quite obscurity somewhere.
The clown is now a member of parliament.

Her name was Carole Hersee. She was the daughter of the BBC engineer George Hersee and received a fee of £100 for the photo. (big bucks in 1967!!)
You don't get to see her on the test card anymore really because of 24 hour broadcasting.
She is now a theatrical costume-maker and lives in Suffolk with her family
