In a word - no. Labour law can get involved though and you should consult a lawyer if it affects you. It also doesn't stop companies from trying to "Union Bust" without knowing it is illegal. Sometimes a manager acts without consulting the higher ups on the consequences of firing an employee.

The law has specific provisions that deal with union organizing activities on the job. If you're an employer and are concerned about your employees participating in union activities, consult your attorney. Do not fire anyone for that as you may be in the wrong from the legal standpoint for punishing people for their union activities.
If you're an employee who'd like to organize a union chapter in your company; talk to a union official on how to go about this. Although the law allows certain union activities on the job, there are restrictions. Step out of bound and your employer may discipline you (including firing) for starting/making troubles on the job. Be careful!

Yes I believe it's legal. According to my union business agent. If you are employed in a non union shop, you need to talk to your co-workers and get kind of a survey, how many want to join a union. If you have a majority, then contact a union (depending on the industry) and talk to them.
