Not really; but then, it's not for everyone, either.

I'm not saying that you couldn't have a happy, long-term relationship just living together. Of course you could.

But the keys to a successful relationship of any kind are:

1) A long list of common interests; things you both enjoy doing TOGETHER as opposed to mostly separate interests ("my friends" vs "your friends").

2) A lot of tolerance for each other's differences. As much as you share in common, you're still going to rub one another wrong from time to time. Be mature and deal with it. Separate the small $h!t from the serious stuff.

3) A sense of forgiveness, for, as I said, you're both going to screw up on occasion.

It depends on how you define marriage. In some cultures even biblical cultures, marriage is simply life long cohabitation. Our ideas that marriage requires a ritualistic party, legal documents and the union of two virgins is outdated. Live long cohabitation on the otherhand, has a variety of social and psychological benefits and should be and is, at least where I am from, recognised as marriage.

I am having a wedding though because the ritualistic party is important to our families. To me? It's meaningless. I consider myself already married.

No not at all... and it never should be either. In God's eyes it will never be outdated at all and i feel that marriage should be entered into the right way.

I'm coming to believe that marriage is outdated, but the romantic side of me hopes its not. Its not taboo these days to cohabitate so why get married, especially when you consider the increasing divorce rate.

No! Its something that is their for a reason. Just people seem to marry and divorce like if they were popping pills. If it was outdated people wouldnt spend so much money on weddings.

No its not people have ruined it and its standing because they foolishly jump into marriage when they arent ready for the responsibility of it. If you cant keep you hands or mind on one woman then you arent ready.
