I agree.

I would also say that the adults of today create the situation through the decisions parents make regarding how they raise their kids and the decisions business people make in how they market their products.

Its the adults who created the commercialism and consumerism society - not the kids that react to it.

I say that as someone at the age where I remember the 80s - we rode bikes and built tree forts. We ate junk food, but not all the time. We were not overweight because we ran everywhere and played outside all day long.

I say this as someone who has been in the working world long enough to start having some influence while understanding I'll screw myself to try and change the system.

I say this as someone who after talking to a friend of mine and his baby boomer father heard the father say "what have we (his generation) done to the world?"

My generation learned to think about money before anything from our parents. We now do, and its never enough so we don't have time nor make time to raise our kids to respect others - its dog eat dog now. My generations kids now know of no other way - this is the generation you speak of.

All is not lost though.... Not all baby boomers, not all of their kids and not all of their kids are like that. Some were taught well by their parents and are now teaching their kids well too.

True of the youths of every generation. (True that they are described as that, not that they necessarily all are.)
