you could make it a theme like a spy / james bond ...or comic book if they r boys aged 8 maybe with spiderman / superman .....or make them individual by getting yr son/daughter to do his own then print off copies.......kids love to use glitter and glue so maybe suggest fireworks that can lead to lots of colour and flashes ........best of luck .....
