have a free stay in Shimla and manali from August 16 th to nov end. is it a good time to visit. will it be very cold for the kids? or is the moonsoon season there?

a lot depends on what you and your family is looking for?

if you are looking for snow and some adventure sports including hang gliding, ski etc., you might want to go mid or late november.

if you want to escape the heat and spend some good time in the hills and rather hate wintry (very cold) conditions, you may want to go in late August or September

also, check the place in terms of electricity/generator availability; not all of the places will have the same continuous electricity, heat and hot water facilities.

Monsoon is from end June going on till about early August; of course with the climate change that is becoming a pattern, you could expect the rains to continue till end August, which means September would be just lovely with good rivers, water and abundance of hydroelectric power in HP.

November to mid february is the best cool season for Shimla,Kulu and Manali.

Last year i was at Shimla during mid november and it was awesome. This is a great time to be in a great hillstation. A bit chill but i enjoyed it MAX.
