We are certainly a star-crossed city when it comes to sports. I think back to when they signed Burrell to a monster contract and their pervasive bad fortune when they reward their young stars.

The team and good luck aren't good friends, much less, acquaintances when it comes to rewarding players already on their team. But are there fans out there and baseball people who think he is going to toss up a "stinkburger" of a season?

Feel free to list other disappointing seasons after a player signed a big pact.

I am not a Phillies fan, but I envy that team! Utley is an outstanding young player, and I strongly believe (and hope) that they will finish in front of the Mets in '07. The Phils have an awesome lineup & are entertaining to any true baseball fan. I'm more of an AL West fan (avid) so good luck. Utley will not be the "kiss of death" for the Phillies at all. It may be the "kiss of death" for the Mets.

I don't think it will be the kiss of death for the Phillies. Utley has already entered his prime and should be productive throughout the life of that contract.

I also don't agree with the guy who thinks it will be the kiss of death for the Mets. It's not like he's going to play any better because he's locked up long-term. I look for the Phillies to have an 85-90 win team this season which might be good enough for a wild card. I think their awful bullpen will hurt them quite a bit.

I'm a huge phillies fan & I think Chase Utley is a great asset to the Phillies future. The guy is the real deal belive me, he will be compared to the great Ryne Sandberg HOF that played for the Cubs by the time his carrer is over. By the way the Phillies drafted Sandberg then traded him away. A good hitting second basemen is very hard to find.

I'm obviously not a Phillies fan but I disagree with your logic. The Phillies had to do the contract. He had a monster year and is a known commodity. They rewarded excellent play with the current day value of what that is. Not signing him would have been a huge blunder. You always take a chance when you sign people. Look at the Yankees with Randy Johnson, Carl Pavano etc etc.

Big money does tend to lead to laziness on the part of the players..hopefully it won't happen to Utley.

action picture star indications are thoroughly irrelivant of greatness. In cutting-edge English colleges, scholars born in September are better statistically probably to achieve fulfillment in sport than those in August, so that you ought to decide the massive call sign in that way in case you wanted. The features of people born less than action picture star indications are in hardship-free words similar via coincidence, if in any respect.
