If men don't shave their underarm (armpit) hair, why should women?

I heard and read articles that French and Arab men as well as a few others, prefer unshaved women?

With or without hair, it will still smell if you overlook washing your underarm areas.

Try not washing your head of hair and smell it out !!! lol.

I'm American, I don't shave anything and I smell great, BECAUSE I WASH! Man, so many of these people who've answered are brain washed by the culture they grew up in. I challenge all of you "experts" (who have probably never had a proper arm pit muff in your lives) to not shave under your arms for at least three months and actually find out if it "stinks" for yourselves. I bet you girls are so concerned about what other people think about you that you don't even have the guts to try it. And no, one month of stubble doesn't count! Until then, how about you keep your "professional" opinions to yourselves. Pathetic females!!

Most of the answers above don't address they main issue of chauvanism.

Why does a lady have to do it WHEN MEN DON'T. That's the main question.

Well, I suppose it's all part of the kind of "look" that goes nowadays. Men are supposed to be more masculine and so they are laughed at when they go overboard with shaving their armpits or doing their eyebrows.

Ladies are supposed to be more gracious. Having armpit hair is considered a more masculine and less gracious thing- that's why it's expected of ladies nowadays.

However, it's entirely up to you. If you're brave enough not to do it, then don't. Hats off to you. Your courage of facing the boo-ing is admirable.

Most people don't want to deal with this, so they just shave.

In alot of other countries women do not shave their armpits, as well as their legs (and other areas too).
It has become the norm for us to shave every part of the body that has hair. Let's face it, it looks nicer and you can keep yourself cleaner and smelling nicer. If you feel the need NOT to shave then all the power to you...this is America and you can do what you please!

Actually, Arab men do not prefer unshaved women.. in fact, both Arab men and women shave under their arms...
It is considered to be hygenically better...

It is convention that a clean shaven woman's armpit is more feminine, because hairiness in women is associated with an excess of testosterone.
For instance in Morocco women shave their sex, which I find less attractive esthetically for obvious reason.

I believe it all comes down to choice. Some men shave theirs underams some dont. Women should have the same choice its their body anyone who says because its cleaner is a fool as long as you use soap and clean it good its just as clean as with hair. So its preference :)

You are absolutely 1000% RIGHT. It is part of the Puritan ethic on cleanliness. Seems that the less hairy a woman is the cleaner she must be. And puritans are very clean people, they wash themselves constantly attempting to wash their "sins" away.

I think here in America, guys just likes their women clean and nicely shaved...I guess its just the times we live in. I honestly prefer if ladies shaved.
