Short for HyperText Markup Language, the authoring language used to create documents on the World Wide Web. HTML is similar to SGML, although it is not a strict subset.

HTML defines the structure and layout of a Web document by using a variety of tags and attributes. The correct structure for an HTML document starts with (enter here what document is about) and ends with . All the information you'd like to include in your Web page fits in between the and tags.

There are hundreds of other tags used to format and layout the information in a Web page. Tags are also used to specify hypertext links. These allow Web developers to direct users to other Web pages with only a click of the mouse on either an image or word(s). For a more complete list of tags, check out some of the URLs below.

from wikipedia :
HTML, short for HyperText Markup Language, (computing) is the predominant markup language for the creation of web pages. It provides a means to describe the structure of text-based information in a document — by denoting certain text as headings, paragraphs, lists, and so on — and to supplement that text with interactive forms, embedded images, and other objects. HTML is written in the form of tags, created by greater-than signs (<) and less-than signs (>). HTML can also describe, to some degree, the appearance and semantics of a document, and can include embedded scripting language code which can affect the behavior of web browsers and other HTML processors.

HyperText Markup Language.
It is the language/code that is used to construct all internet websites.
To see the code, right click on any blank or text part of any website (not a photo or graphic) then left click on View Source or in Firefox View Page Source and you will see the HTML code.

Hyper text mark-up language. It's the bricks & mortar of websites. If you right click on this page and select "view source" what you will see is html. Its how the information about the site is sent via the web, and your web browser translates that into what you see as a page.

Looks complicates, but its really easy to pick up.
