Anyone else think that they both or just him where planning on cashing in on there life insurance plan by faking a death? All those weird history searches on the internet from his computer make it seem like he was going to fake his death or hers (you can view them all on courtv..insurance plans, how much blood is needed to say someone died without a body, when does a missing body become dead, brazilian citizenship, storing blood) and maybe it went down wrong, she died and that wasn't the plan. Maybe he paid someone to shoot them, that is why no one came forward about there car being at the scene? Was this ever even brought up in court? It is bothering me now, and I thought this made sense.

Unfortunate what happened, likely it was one of 4 scenerio's:
They were attacked by an unknown mugger, he shot her and himself, he had assistence with the crime, a faked death of one of them gone wrong.
Some reasons why the jury may have convicted are:
The 2 million dollar life insurance policy on her, he took her way out to an isolated location, he was already involved in a sexual relationship with another woman at the time of the crime and continued in attempts see her afterwards (never good when there's 6 women on the jury), also he was caught in an outright lie about even having this affair - not good for his credibility. The download of the song "Used To Love Her" just hours before the crime - and was deleted afterwards, The weird internet searches done months before the crime for subjects that either happened or were related to the crime such as "gunshot wound right chest", "medical trauma gunshot chest", "Florida divorce" etc. Prosecutors have suggested he was researching ways to survive shooting himself and points to premeditation.

The prosecution and defense did a good job (there's testimony of there being a second car seen near their SUV), still it's telling when the jury on the 2nd day of deliberations asked to have read back the testimony of the The pathologist and the prosecution crime-scene reconstructionist, who essentially testified that the forensics concerning the wife were at odds with Barber's version of events relating to his attempts to carrying and dragging his mortally injured wife 300 feet up the beach. The jury also had read back the defense expert who testifies that Jason's injuries were consistent with being shot by a mugger.

Also why did he purchase body armor before the murder of his wife? According to other court papers, computer searches done after the murder for information about relocating to Brazil which Barber believed did not have an extradition treaty with the U.S. The computer analysis also showed a series of strange searches that hinted at curiosity about faking one's death. The searches included "American death certificate Mexico"; "murder missing corpse large amount of blood presumed dead"; "how much blood loss is required to be declared dead"; and "frozen blood storage". Barber was planning details of the murder or murder-like incident for at least six months before the shooting - one of them had to appear to be dead for the insurance to pay off, did something go off script? Weird case for sure.
