I'm nice to my Ex's even though there are no kids. That's just the type of person I am. But if my wife and I ever split up I'd like to think I'd at least be civil to her regardless of whether there were kids or no kids.

Yes... I am nice to my ex because he did produce, with my help...a few brilliant sperms that were smart enough to reach my eggs :) Kindness is extended towards him, so my kids don't turn into jerks, like he is :)
Otherwise...I would quietly have disappeared, never to see that mean, selfish, son of a mother-in-law apron strings attached slime ball again...lol..cuz he'd keep reminding me what I had once settled for ! lol Been there..done that..bought the T-Shirt :)

If it wasn't for my son, I would of stopped talking to him A LONG time ago. But then again, even with the kid I only hear from him every 6 months or so. He IS the definition of a "deadbeat dad"! :(

As long as he knows his duty and his responsibility for the kids. If weren't for them, I might probably ...just moved on, and no contact at all.

I'm nice to my husband because of the kids. if they weren't there, neither would he be. I'd have booted him out long ago.

LOL... well ironically i actually 'get along' with my baby daddy just coz - but the minute he starts talking about our daughter - all hell breaks lose.. i dont want him to have anything to do with that girl... he ran away from the pregnancy and now that she is a beautiful angel he wants to act like he cares - I DONT THINK SO....
But if its just me and him talking general issues - then all is cool..

Actually yes and no. I love Jesus and he commands me to still love her. But at the same time, I love my kids and am nice to her for them. It is hard at times. She isn't reciprocating
