I am thinking about upgrading the memory on my Compaq Presario R3000 model and looking to get 1-2 1 GB RAM chips. So far I have only been looking for Kingston ones because the manufacturer recommends it. I found a compatible chip made by Smart Modular Technologies on the PCConnection.com website which offers both for half the price? What am I losing out here? Is there something I am overlooking? The Kingston chip I am considering is "1GB DDR333 Module KTH-ZD7000/1G" and the other one is "1GB PC2700 333MHz 200-pin DDR SDRAM SODIMM for Select HP Compaq Notebooks and Tablet PCs" Help please!

Certain "name" brands of memory like Kingston, Toshiba etc cost more, but twice as much is too high. I'm partial to Corsair and Crucial myself... Smart Modular isn't a big brand name, so it looks like they're just selling generic memory.

I'm also not all that impressed with Kingston's quality- I've had a few bad sticks from them over the years.
