A possible solution may be the holes are`nt to large, but the "handles" are`nt tightening up to the surfaces of the door and they are slipping down. Also the latches may be Sticking and not properly extending into the strikes when the door is closed. If you remove the devices, you should find the face bore to be 2 1/8 inches. If you find this to be the case and indeed the door is hollow, you may have to fashion a couple pieces of wood that you can slip into the bore and down between the two surface skins. Also one above. These pieces when glued in place, will keep the surfaces from compressing and the device will tighten properly and not sag. Assuming these are interior doors, the dimensions of your pieces should be 1 1/2 X 1 1/2 X 1 1/8. the last being your thickness number and most critical. Hope this helped!!!

You can get a repair gizmo for that a Home Depot or any decent hardware store. Not sure what it's called but it will be a brass or stainless steel sheet metal thing that looks kinda like a book with the pages missing, and a hole in both sides. You just remove the door knob and slip this thing over the door, then re-install the door knob. Be sure and measure the thickness of your door cuz they are not all the same and you need the proper fit.
Congrats on the new crib. There's no better feeling than having your own space, and getting away from paying rent.

If the doors are hollow, as you believe, in the area of the lock there would be a solid piece of wood for the purpose of fitting the lock. Have the locks removed and further examine the problem. You can plug the existing 'too large hole' with a tight fitting circular plug of the exact same width as the solid piece that was originally cut to receive the lock. Use some wood glue on the mating surface of this plug and allow to dry as per glue manufacturer's recommendation. Then have a new hole cut to the correct diameter and re-install the lock. Or if simpler, remove the old solid piece of wood in its entirety and fit a new piece and secure properly. Then using a hole saw, cut a new hole of the correct diameter for the lock you have and reinstall. Door locks are of varying types but the most common are the 'entrance lock set' and the 'dead bolt'. These come with instructions and sketches that guide you in installing. Keep your doors and fix the problem.

The present day doors are not normally made up of a single block of wood but with small pieces of wood pasted and then covered by a thin sheet of wood on both the sides, that is the reason your door sounds hollow. The best thing at this stage to do is make the hole a little more bigger and fill it up with a small block of wood ( This is also made by small pieces of wood pasted and then covered by thin sheet of wood) very tight together with a wood adhesive and then once again drill holes to fit the door knob. Do not worry a good carpenter can do a perfect job by which the door will be fool proof from any pranks.

yes you can first check to see if the nob just haven't slipped down it is possible to lift the knob up if you loosen the two screws slide it up then tighten the two screws if this doesn't work get apiece of door skin 1/8'' thick and about 3'' sq. you need two one for each side drill a 2 -3/4'' hole in the center of both pieces then remove knob glue in proper place replace knob you could also use a 3'' round plate or a metal disk (large washer) there are other options but this would be the easiest and cheapest good luck if you are in Eugene Oregon i could give you the number of a good handyman that could fix your doors for about ten bucks per door you shouldn't have to pay much more than that try it yourself first you might enjoy it good luck

I would first loosen the screws a little and see if you can move that knob around a little to cover up that gap. It is probably just worked it's way around over the years. Usually there is like a flange cover that is larger than the knob hole and it has 2 screws in it attaching it to the other side of the knob assembly. Try that first. If not I would try to find new knobs with a larger flange cover before buying new doors.

You could put plugs of wood in the holes and repair them, but you have to rebore them, and they would never hold up. Replacement doors are not all that expensive, and fairly easy to rehang. My advice is to just replace the doors.

I'm not sure, but I think you can purchase different size "plates" to fit behind the knobs, which would of course have to be removed first.
Hope this helps....
