...just as i'm coming to a stop, and put it in to neutral. it turns over, but the car doesn't move. eventually, the car starts up again. 1990 miata stick I've brought it to the dealership, they do a diagnostic, and come up with nothing both times. gosh i'm not sure what i'm talking about, but they say it's not the pump or the lines. anyone have a clue what i'm talking about?

Sounds like a clogged fuel filter. You were told that it wasn't the pump or the lines? I would get a second opinion. Or, you could just check it yourself. You can get a "Chilton's Manual" free from the library and find out how to do this. Some auto parts stores will even lend you the equipment to diagnose the problem for free (you might have to leave a 100% refundable deposit).

it could be a lot of things but i would be looking in the direction of what is the idle speed and when was the last time you had your air filter checked or changed or routine maintence done to your car the owners manual has a reccommended schedule in it

Turn your idler up to 1,500 rpm. Your car is old enough to vote.
