Every child has individual needs, but not special needs. Special needs generally refers to a need that outlies the accepted norm for development or socialization.

To diminish the very intense needs of a child who is autistic, has cerebral palsy or mental retardation by equating it with normal needs of every typically developing child is infantile and ignorant.
