He might not be ready for food. He will let you know by wanting to taste what is on your plate.Try offering him food off your plate whenever you eat.If he doesn't want it fine, try next time, jsut keep offering without fussing.please don't force him,he will enjoy food when he is ready. nutritionally he doesn't need food until he is 12 months old but most babies are trying foods before this and some are enjoying 3 meals a day.He has doubled his birth weight by 6 months which is the norm.
avocado milkshake LOL I don't see why not, but he may have a reaction or some constipation with the introduction of cows milk. I would introduce cows milk slower than that ,say in weetbix or other cereal and try t he avocado mashed separtely.
so basically, give it arest, relax, don't force him and just let him pick of your plate when he is ready :)

When they push the food out with their tongue, it's usually their tongue reflex which is telling you that they aren't ready for solids yet - as in, they don't actually know how to push the food to the back of their mouth for swallowing. Sometimes this has nothing to do with age as my Daughter is 4 months old and is already a professional at eating off the spoon, however my friends Son is almost 8 months and still doesn't want the spoon in his mouth. If you haven't tried something really simple and wet like baby rice mixed with breast milk then give that a go and make sure you are using a really soft weaning spoon - I've always found that one a little bit deeper is better otherwise it slips off the side and covers the baby when they are learning. Maybe she just isn't ready but my guess is that she is ready but that she is just learning and it's new to her. If you think she is hungry then just have patience and keep trying or you could hold back for another week or two and try again. Best of luck.

First off... KUDOS TO YOU for breastfeeding exclusively for the first 6 months. You have done a wonderful thing for your son. As a nursing Mom myself I know that it's not always the easiest thing to do and you deserve praise for having gotten to the 6 month mark. I hope that you continue. You are providing your child with an IDEAL beginning nutritionally and he will no doubt be much healthier as an adult because of this gift you have CHOSEN to give to him. Good for you.

My son was the same way. He wasn't really into solids until he was almost 10 months old... and that is perfectly okay. Solid foods aren't really necessary in the first year. Breastfeeding exclusively for the first year is common in other countries. Solids are only for practice in the second half of the first year. Now that my son is a year old he is sometimes more cooperative... note that I said *sometimes*. When he isn't into eating solids... I don't force it. He'll eat when he's ready. Don't force your baby. He knows what he needs. And your breast milk is suiting him just fine right now. Just try periodically and make it fun... no pressure.

Best wishes.

Hi, I have a baby thats a litte over 5 months old.

There is a possiblity that your daughter just isn't ready for solids. Every baby develops differently.

I'd ask your dr. about your baby clamping his mouth down, could his tongue possibly be tied? That means the connector that is under it is a little too tight and they either have you wait it out or they clip it.

What do you mean by avacado milkshake? Add avacado to breast milk or formula and blend it? I don't see why not. I tried smashing avacado for my daughter but she didnt like it.

I hope that this works out for you soon, and enjoy your sweet baby boy :) If you ever need a support community www.babycenter.com is great and they have something called birth clubs. Everyone in the club has a baby that was born the same month and year as you, its a really great resource!

Congratulations for making it to 6 months! I agree with Blonde_Mama. You should be commended for providing your son with such a great start. It's tough sometimes to nurse a little one and many women (most) give up long before this age. So, you should absolutely be proud of this accomplishment.

My child also took a while to adjust to eating solid food. At nearly 9 months old was when my baby started to show an interest ~ and that has been off and on as well. Some days I can get a few bites in and others nothing. I say let your baby be your guide. If he isn't interested don't make him eat. Just take it at his pace. As long as he is alert, happy and thriving there is no cause for concern.

you just have to keep trying. He is not used to it, he doesn't know what to do yet. Make him small amounts of rice cereal mixed with breastmilk and try it every other day or so, eventually he'll catch on.

If the Avocado milk shake contains cow's milk, then, No, you should not give it to him. Remember that cow's milk can cause allergic reactions to infants under a year of age. It may not, but just don't, If you really want to make him an avocado milk shake then, use breastmilk in the mix instead.

Relax...I know you want him to eat something more than milk right now, but if he's not ready, he's not ready, and forcing him is only going to make both of you feel bad.

Give it a rest for a while, his interest will pick up when it's not being rammed down his throat :)

Hi
Try opening your mouth when he's supposed to, babies copy things to learn. You could even try having a bowl and spoon for you to pretend to eat as well. Also give him a spoon to distract him, babies stick things in their mouth so as he goes to stick his spoon in his mouth you can zip a spoonful in. Don't get frustrated learning takes time. Goodluck. Some kids like pureed avocado mixed with pureed pears.
