That poem (I have seen the entire thing) is marvelous and oh, so true. I believe it was referencing the Holocaust.

If you do not speak out against predjudice, then nothing shall change. And if prejudice is allowed to run rampant, sooner or later everyone shall be a target. There is no way to stop bigotry but by allowing it to go without a protest, it is going to increase.

An example of prejudice run rampant is the_lipsiot.

By the way, the_lipsiot, I am Rromani... that means I am a Gypsy. I doubt you have spoken with many real Gypsies. You have seen some bad ones (assuming they were actually Rromani and not some misc. Gadje thugs) and you have decided that ALL Gypsies are like that.

Congratulations on stereotyping an entire ethnicity! Good job!

I have never had a problem speaking out against prejudice, especially when it comes from someone I know. I have a brother-in-law who has come to learn not to blurt out racial slurs or prejudices in my presence because I have a "bad" habit of cutting him off in mid-sentence and telling him that I do not appreciate such talk. Never be afraid to speak out when someone tells a racial joke or engages in racial hatred. It doesn't do any good to say you're against prejudice if you never actually speak up against the practice.

First they came for the Jews
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for the Communists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for me
and there was no one left to speak.

I give everyone the benefit of the doubt until they give me reason to doubt; regardless of race. PEOPLE!? Can we do this? It's not necessary to put yourself in a life-threatening situation to trust others just a llittle.

I wouldn't speak up for the gypsies either...........

Dirty smelly pikeys nicked my wife's car, trashed our local sports hall and field, turned the car park at my office into a scene from Apocalypse Now, broke a load of windows and crapped in the bushes outside the main entrance.

I have no prejudices against people who live within the limits of moral and social decency.

If one does so, then why should anyone come for them?

*****************************************************************

Thanks for the negative votes.

Yes I am prejudiced, because my experiences of a particular group of people have been unremittingly, unfailingly bad (and entirely unprovoked). These people claim to be the genuine article my Romany friend below, so I have no desire now to explore their culture or get to know them better, even if you are a decent bloke yourself. I'm afraid my view has been tainted.......but at least I'm honest about it and don't try to hide behind philosophy.

I said above that I have no problem with people who live within an acceptable moral and social code - do I therefore infer that other people condone such abysmal behaviour because they respond with a negative vote?
