Unless it's a really heavy duty cord you will loose sufficient amperage over a 100 ft distance that you will be under-amping the compressor motor and it will greatly shorten the life of your fridge. Insufficient amperage will cause the motor to overheat and eventually burn out the armature windings in your compressor.

It isn't going to cost more; but you should have a heavy cord(12 gauge wire) to avoid voltage drop. You can damage your refrigerator if the cord isn't big enough.

You didn't say what wattage your fridge was. So I would hazard an extension cord with 12 awg wire would suffice. If it is a very large one, go for the 10 awg type (RV centers have these if your local hardware store doesn't.)
With this type of load, any smaller gage wire will likely warm from the load (wasting electricity) and steal power your fridge needs, as described by prior respondents.
