How to Test for Chlorine

Materials Required

Chlorine Indicator Kit (purchase at your local pool supply store)
Sample of water*
Clear glass
*Note that chlorine evaporates rapidly. Therefore, test for chlorine as soon after you draw your water sample as possible.

Easy Steps for Testing Chlorine

Draw sample from your shower or bath (where you bathe your hair and skin). Allow the water to run for one minute and collect up to 3 ounces of cold or cool water into a clear glass or container. Do not draw hot water.
Dispense 6-10 drops of Chlorine Indicator into the sample of water and shake or swirl water around in glass or container.
If the water remains clear, there is no residual chlorine in the water at that time. If the water turns yellow, this indicates chlorine is present in the water. If the water turns very yellow or a greenish color, this indicates a high level of chlorine that may exceed the legal standards for chlorine required by states for swimming pool sanitation.

I love the show!!!

Paula, you're sooo rich, you can aford to purchase a really nice water purification system and you don't ever have to test your water, in fact pay a service tech from Kentico to come out and test it.
otherwise, go to Pet-Co and purchase a cheap chlorine test kit.

Home depot has a test kit you can use. If you want to measure the exact amount you will need a test kit from Hach.

Depending on how far you live from your water plant you may have high levels close to the plant. Low levels far from the plant. You do want some Cl2 in your water.

Yes. Test kits for this are available at pet stores, for controlling fish tanks, and also at hardware stores, for monitoring swimming pools.
