No. The checks and balances were put in place for a reason - much to Bush's dismay.

On the contrary, I advocate a constitutional amendment to take away some of the federal government's current power.

No. I would advocate the Constitution to be updated to reflect modern times with a careful outline of each branches powers. I would also advocate that this be mandatory about once every 50 years. I would say though the basic rights that is stated in the original Constitution be kept to preserve the spirit of what our fore-fathers intended.

I say hell no. But, sadly the conservatives have advocated it with things such as the patriot act. At this point in time all ammendents have been nullified, except for the second ammendment, which gives the government complete control. It is starting to look like the second amendment will be attacked next with the way people are killing eachother and all. At that point, we technically won't have any freedom and the government can do what they want with us. So, again I say HELL NO!

The constitution was written the way that it was in order to prevent the government from having too much power over the people.

No way! I think our method of checks and balances does work, but at times, there are those who abuse it with an arrogance of power. The president can over-ride some congressional legislation by decreeing actions by Executive Order simply by changing a word or two or phrase so it can be made binding. The feds have way too much power as it is. The other two branches need to keep it in check with alittle more intent and firmness.
