Whatever happened to the "Near" East?

We have a "Middle" East. We have a "Far" East. We used to have a "Near" East. What happened to it? Where did it go?

It got too near, so we bombed it.

LEE I; the near east has gotten so close to us now in this global village we live in that it is not so much as near anymore......it's here!
