that would be a good idea. Applying at the mall also gives you the chance to build a social network(fellow applicants), not exactly close friends, but enough to give you one scrap of potentially good information every once in a while.

That is a good idea. A lot of stores delete online applications the next day. So, if a position comes available next week, your application will be long gone. If you go in person and introduce yourself to the manager, then they will not only have your paper application, they will also have you in mind when a position comes open. So many people apply online these days, going into the store will show them that you go above and beyond what others do. The exception, of course, is if they require an online application.

The best results are usually gained by simply door knocking! Take several copies of your resume with you and go door knocking as the personal approach is the best because they never forget a face whereas applications via email simply don't have an identity. I would suggest that you door knock at companies which are different from your usual occupation as they often have openings for people who they didn't consider and I personally know of several people who were given jobs simply in the basis of their ability rather than their background. Launch out and try something different as I have cracked several jobs on this basis. You haven't said which country you are from but some of the under developed countries and developing countries will take any one who is prepared to try something different and has common sense. I took my first overseas job many years ago because I was offered a position in Fiji all because my attitude was right. Attitude will always override experience as no one likes someone who is all knowledgeable but cant get along with the rest of the staff. If I may suggest, Go along to several employment agencies and let them see the real you and leave a resume with them. I noticed from your question that you mentioned stores. Log on to WWW SEEK.COM.AU and look for positions overseas in duty free stores. I wish you luck in your attempts as I firmly believe that many good people are passed over because their true value has not been realised. Go for something big as I always remember a lady who was what she considered her self to be a "no one" (there are no "no ones" in this life) who applied for a position in Israel whilst she was from Texas and had no background at all in the position which she applied but was accepted simply because she stated that she liked to help people. She was ther 8 years and made a huge impact on her future career. Go on, do it 'cause I did and am now overseas for 27 years and am loving it. Im an Aussie by the way.

Steve she is not lying and is truth. In spite of his abilities, Artest has been the subject of much controversy. During his rookie season with the Chicago Bulls, he was subject to criticism for applying for a job at Circuit City, just to get an employee discount.[18][19] He once attended an Indiana Pacers practice in a bath robe.[20] He was suspended for two games in the early 2004–05 season by Pacers coach Rick Carlisle after he allegedly asked for a month off because he was tired from promoting an R&B album for the group Allure on his production label.[18] Artest had also been suspended for three games in 2003 for destroying a television camera in Madison Square Garden, New York City, and for four games for a confrontation with Miami Heat coach Pat Riley in 2003.[18] He has also been suspended several times for flagrant fouls.

You should do both. That's because some companies are small and don't have any online sites where you could apply for a job. Go to all the stores you're interested in, and ask them nicely. Good luck!

I work as a recruiter. In this age of Internet recruiting, you need to do more than just "spam" your resume to every employer with a listing. Use the Internet to research who is hiring and where, and then put on a suit and drop off a CV in person. You'll put yourself miles ahead of other candidates

Keep in mind that some companies, especially the ridiculously large ones, prefer their first contact with prospective employees through an online application. Some stores do not have and do not accept paper applications.

If you are still looking for work, unless you are deadset on working in retail, there are lots of other options out there. Check out craigslist and monster and other online job boards, as well as your local classifieds.
