From recent past history, I would name Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy, daughter of Boston Mayor "Honey Fitz" Fitzgerald. Her children have shaped Boston politics and, in fact, American politics for the past 60 years. Her sons, President John Kennedy, Senator Robert Kennedy and Senator Edward Kennedy have made huge contributions, as well as notoriety, in our culture. Her daughters also have played positive roles in many ways. Eunice Kennedy Shriver founded the Special Olympics--worldwide & national, her late daughter Rosemary who was retarded, was their inspiration to organize it. Also, even her grandchildren have made contributions in several areas of American life. Rep. Joe Kennedy was a congressman from the same district as his Uncle Jack, Bobby Kennedy, Jr. is an environmental advocate, Edward Kennedy's son Patrick is a congressman from Rhode Island, and Kathleen Kennedy was Lt. Governor from Maryland, also Maria Shriver is the wife of Gov. Schwarznegger of California. Rose taught them good values & because of their wealth and standing, that all of the should give back to the country for all their blessings. Rose Kennedy ranks #1 in my book as being one of the most influential women in Bostonian history & American history.

Mary Beth Cahill is an American political figure, who served as the campaign manager of Senator John Kerry's campaign for the Democratic nomination for President. She was Kerry's second campaign manager; she replaced Jim Jordan in November of 2003, after Jordan was fired by Kerry.

She was born in Dorchester, Massachusetts and raised in Framingham, Massachusetts by a large, politically active, Irish-Catholic family. Cahill graduated from Emmanuel College, Boston, a small local Catholic liberal arts school with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science.
